Activities for Clients

Here at Oakleaf we have various different activities, groups and workshops that you might like to get involved with. It might be to learn new skills, find a new hobby, or just to meet new people and get out and about. Have a look at the schedule of events below to see what is going on this month.

We currently host activities in Guildford Town Centre, North Guildford (Outreach) and Waverley. You may also download the full calendars here. (Please note that the calendars are on 3 pages)

Tai Chi

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese practice which aims to improve general health and well-being. It is a type of meditation – a way of calming the mind and body in this ever crazy world we live in! Some people find a personal spiritual side to it, others use it for relaxation and strengthening the body and mind.

It is never too late to start learning Tai Chi. You will be amazed with what you can achieve in a short space of time!

It costs just £1 a session but spaces are limited so please speak with Annalise to book your space.

2:30 pm – 3:30 pm

Thanks to the success of our one off taster session with a professional photographer in Guildford we will be hosting a session each week on a Wednesday.  

It is the perfect opportunity to ask questions, pick up some tips on how to improve the pictures you take and to meet new people who share an interest in taking great pictures.

We’ve all heard that yoga is good for you, and for those of us that have tried it have discovered that it makes us feel better. Regular practice can offer all kinds of mental and physical health benefits. Some, like improved flexibility, are clearly evident. Others, including mental clarity and stress reduction, may be more subtle but are just as powerful.
When put together, all the benefits contribute to an increased feeling of well-being.

After popular demand we are happy to put Art Classes back onto the Oakleaf calendar. Art therapy is known to help improve various mental and physical symptoms including, but not limited to, reducing pain, anxiety and tension. It can be beneficial to those who have experienced mental disorders, emotional abuse, cancer, post traumatic stress disorders (PTSD), people who are bi-polar, and a variety of other serious ailments.

Our New Art Tutor will guide the group through painting, drawing and water colours.

Costs just £2 a session.

Confidence Course in Stoughton

The aim of this 10 week course is to help you look at what confidence
is, how to increase your confidence and how to overcome
certain difficult social situations, whilst managing your mental
health condition. It is also a great opportunity to meet other people and get to know them as you go through the course together.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a way of paying attention to the present moment, using techniques like meditation, breathing and yoga. It helps us become more aware of our thoughts and feelings, so that instead of being overwhelmed by them, we are better able to manage them.

Practising mindfulness can give people more insight into their emotions, boost their attention and concentration and improve relationships. It’s proven to help with stress, anxiety, depression and addictive behaviours, and can even have a positive effect on physical problems like hypertension, heart disease and chronic pain.

Join Oakleaf on a trip to Active Zone gym where we will get to use all the equipment in a 1 hour session paid for by Oakleaf. After the success of the last course we are very excited to have the Centre of Psychology coming in to do a 5 week Anxiety Management Course. Each session will last an hour and a half and you must attend all five weeks to join the course.
