What is Mental Health First Aid?

MHFA is an internationally recognised training course that helps you manage the wellbeing and minimise the impact of mental ill health on work and life. Our training courses teach people to spot the symptoms of mental health issues, offer initial help and guide a person towards support.

We won’t teach people to be therapists, but we will teach you how to listen to your employees, reassure them and respond to them, even in a crisis – and potentially stopping many from reaching crisis point.

We have training options to suit a range of timescales and budgets, designed to benefit employees, line managers, HR professionals and senior leaders alike – to let all your people meet challenges in the workplace head on.

We offer three training options;

A TWO day, a ONE day, and a HALF day course.

The TWO day course is £300 +VAT per person and will qualify you as a certified Mental Health First Aider.

The ONE day course is £200 +VAT per person and will qualify you as a MHFA Champion.

The HALF day course is £125 +VAT per person and is an introductory session to raise awareness of mental health.

Click here for a PDF booklet with more in depth information on each training option.

By choosing to do your MHFA training through Oakleaf you will not only be looking after your employees’ wellbeing but also supporting Oakleaf in helping individuals who are struggling with severe cases of mental illness.

Stress, anxiety, depression – These are the biggest causes of workplace sick leave in our society. Mental health problems are responsible for 91 million working days lost each year.

Mental ill health costs UK employers an estimated £34.9 billion a year – the equivalent of £1,300 for every employee in the UK workforce. Broken down, that’s £10.6 billion in sickness absence, £21.2 billion in reduced productivity, and £3.1 billion in replacing staff who leave their jobs for mental health-related reasons.

Simple steps to improve the management of mental health in the workplace will allow employers to save 30% or more of these costs – at least £10 billion a year. This is where Oakleaf can help.

By skilling your organisation in MHFA you can:

  • Give your people the tools to keep themselves and their colleagues healthy
  • Encourage them to access support when it’s needed, for a faster recovery
  • Empower people with a long term mental health issue or disability to thrive in work
  • Stop preventable health issues arising by building a supportive culture around mental health
  • Embed positive, long term cultural change across your organisation through robust policy
