World Mental Health Day 2017 – ‘Start the Conversation’ Campaign

Oakleaf would like to thank all of the companies that participated in our ‘Start the Conversation’ campaign to raise mental health awareness in the workplace on World Mental Health Day 2017.

Some companies hosted coffee mornings, others dress down days and one company even put on a performance to raise awareness of mental health in the workplace. Other supporters  kindly donated and continued to spread the word about Mental Health.

Thanks to the generosity of staff the monies raised from this campaign will help to fund social activities for clients to participate in a 6 week art course and to get supplies for the Horticulture team.

The statistics is worrying. 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem this year. Time off work due to a mental health illness costs the UK economy £108 Billion per annum. At Oakleaf Enterprise our aim is to make life work with mental illness and to break down the stigma attached to mental health.

How Can You Make Your Workplace a Mentally Healthy One? 

Companies need to have open and honest dialogue with staff regarding mental ill health in the workplace. Employers can encourage staff to take regular breaks, introduce leisure and team building activities, and have manageable workload. Let us all so our part in raising awareness and breaking the stigma attached to mental ill health.
