NEWS: Oakleaf Firewalk

In celebration of World Mental Health Day, Oakleaf hosted one of its hottest fundraising challenges yet – the Oakleaf Firewalk.

The theme for World Mental Health Day on 10th October 2019 was suicide prevention. Research suggests that over 800,000 people worldwide take their own life each year – and for every 1 suicide, 25 other people make a suicide attempt.

Events like these are a brilliant opportunity to talk about mental health, the challenges we still face, and how we can overcome them.

We challenged daredevil supporters to focus their mind over matter by walking on hot coals to show their commitment to better mental health in the Surrey community. Guildford Cricket Club saw a great turnout, with 40 participants signing up to be a part of the event. We were blessed with lovely weather and had fantastic support from our clients, volunteers and local businesses, including; Metro Bank, Kelly’s Storage, Lovetts Solicitors, Delivered Social, and The Samaritans. Our Patron Penelope Keith was also in attendance, handing out certificates to all those who successfully completed the Firewalk.

It was an incredibly action-packed day. So, we want to say a huge thank you and congratulations to everyone who took part in the Oakleaf Firewalk. To those who willingly faced their fears in order to raise vital funds for our charity.

If you would like to make a donation toward our mental health work, we would be incredibly grateful. For more details about upcoming events, click here.
