11 May PRESS RELEASE: GAMBLING SUPPORT IN SURREY
Oakleaf Expands Specialist Outreach Service to Support Women Affected by Gambling Across Surrey

Oakleaf is pleased to announce the expansion of its specialist Bridge the Gap Trauma-Informed Outreach Service, delivered under the national Changing Futures Programme. This vital initiative will now provide dedicated support to women impacted by gambling-related harm across Surrey.
The service is designed to empower individuals, promote wellbeing, and strengthen inclusive support networks throughout the county.
Surrey County Council’s first Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) for multiple disadvantage highlighted the unique challenges faced by women affected by gambling. In response, the expanded service aims to bridge the gap by offering tailored, trauma-informed support to ensure those most in need receive the care they deserve.
As a key member of Surrey’s Bridge the Gap Alliance, Oakleaf has assembled a team of Specialist Outreach Practitioners to provide one-to-one support within local communities. In addition, a Peer Mentoring programme will deliver group-based, step-down support—creating a comprehensive pathway that promotes long-term recovery and resilience.
Councillor Mark Nuti – Surrey County Council Cabinet Member for Health & Wellbeing, and Public Health said “This initiative represents a significant step in advancing Surrey’s whole-system approach to gambling-related harm and addressing the unmet needs of women. Through a trauma-informed, community-based model, we aim to empower women to make positive and lasting changes.”
