NEWS: Oakleaf Client Christmas Party

It was so wonderful to see such a big turnout for our annual Oakleaf Client Christmas Party on 17th December.

Christmastime can be especially tough for those struggling with mental ill-health. When it comes to the festive period, research by mental health charity Mind, found the consequences of the pressure to have “the perfect Christmas” leaves one in 10 people feeling unable to cope.

Life can be challenging for all of us at times. But when you’re living with a mental health problem, the ups and downs can be that much harder to manage. Many of us look forward to Christmas. For others, the huge emphasis on spending the festive period with family and friends can create feelings of loneliness and isolation; while difficult relationships with loved ones can cause added stresses and pressures.

This is why we felt it was so important to bring the Oakleaf family together.

The event is a great way to celebrate everyone’s achievements over the past year. We kicked off the festive celebration with a special performance from the Oakleaf band. This was followed by the newly formed EveryONE Choir. This year we were lucky enough to have our delicious meal prepared by one of our wonderful volunteers! It was a lovely opportunity to share Christmas gifts with our clients.

So, we want to say a massive thank you to the businesses and supporters who donated to our Christmas Gift Appeal and helped to make our Oakleaf Client Christmas Party so special.

If you or someone you know is struggling this Christmas, is is important to know that you are not alone and we are here to help. The Guildford Safe Haven remains open to anyone experiencing or close to a mental health crisis,  6pm–11pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
